Chief Financial Officer

Axio BioPharma is an AI-first Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) located in Madison, WI. We specialize in the development and manufacturing of mammalian-expressed recombinant proteins, with a focus on monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Our approach combines small-scale manufacturing services and data-driven AI-models to accelerate development timelines, helping to bring life-saving therapies to patients faster. 

Role Description  

The Chief Financial Officer is a key member of the executive team, reporting to the CEO and advising the Board. You will shape the financial strategy that powers Axio BioPharma’s next stage of growth, lead our Series A and future Series B raises, and build the processes that position us for a successful exit. Your responsibilities cover strategic finance, capital markets, accounting, risk management, and team development. You will work with leaders across R&D, operations, and commercial teams to turn business objectives into sound financial plans while maintaining rigorous controls and a culture of accountability. 

Key Responsibilities  

Strategic Finance and Planning  

• Own long-range planning, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling. 
• Align capital deployment with company milestones and growth targets. 

Capital Strategy and Investor Relations  

• Develop clear financial narratives, KPIs, and reports for venture and strategic investors. 
• Evaluate exit options, including IPO and strategic transactions. 

Accounting and Controls  

• Establish GAAP-compliant policies and robust internal controls across US and EU entities. 
• Oversee audits, tax strategy, and transfer pricing. 

Systems and Analytics  

• Select and implement ERP and FP&A platforms that provide real-time financial visibility. 
• Integrate operational metrics with financial reporting for data-driven decisions. 

Risk Management and Governance  

• Oversee treasury, insurance, and corporate governance. 
• Drive IPO readiness and future SOX compliance. 

Team Leadership  

• Recruit, mentor, and scale a high-performing finance and accounting team. 
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 

Required Qualifications  

• 15+ years in finance leadership, including CFO or VP Finance roles at venture-backed life sciences or technology companies. 
• Proven history of raising at least $100 million in equity or debt capital. 
• Significant experience in a CDMO or other biomanufacturing environment. 
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP with public-company or IPO preparation experience. 
• Expertise managing multi-entity, multi-currency structures and transfer pricing. 
• Successful implementation of ERP and analytics systems linking operational and financial data. 
• Strong communication skills for translating financial insights to diverse stakeholders. 
• Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, or related field. MBA, CPA, or advanced degree preferred. 

Preferred Skills  

• M&A execution and integration experience in biotech. 
• Familiarity with AI-enabled technologies. 
• Prior responsibility for SOX compliance. 
• AI proficiency using the latest technologies (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Grok) to enhance, scale, and accelerate key responsibilities of the role.
