Job Description

At Otter Tail Power, our employees help us serve the communities we support by producing reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electricity. As a Renewable Energy Specialist I, you’ll play a vital role in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of our renewable energy assets—making a direct impact on our team, our customers, and the environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and maintain wind and solar technology, ensuring our renewable energy sites operate at peak performance.

  • Collaborate with contractors and internal teams to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize major components for GE and Vestas wind turbines, as well as solar installations.

  • Lead site operations, including environmental inspections, outage restoration, and support for line crews and underground cable location.

  • Ensure safe site access, perform building and yard maintenance, and support snow removal and road upkeep for turbine strings.

  • Expect some travel and after-hours coverage to best accomplish these responsibilities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Positive, can-do attitude and problem-solving mindset

  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card and complete high angle rescue training

  • Willingness to learn heavy equipment operation, electrical troubleshooting, and renewable energy component maintenance

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and a commitment to continuous learning

  • Physical ability to work at heights (300+ feet), lift up to 49 lbs solo or 98 lbs as a team, and work in all weather conditions

Offering:

We believe employment is a partnership and we expect excellence from our talented employees. To support our employees and help drive their career experience and goals we offer:

  • Competitive wage & benefit package.

    • The expected base compensation for this role is $62,000 - $87,000 annually. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

    • Incentive plans

    • Employee Stock Ownership options

    • Retirement Savings Fund with employer match

    • Health, disability and life insurance plan options

  • Training – our employees are provided training and development opportunities each year, including education reimbursement! This includes safety – one of our values and key to our success – technical, compliance and developmental training.

  • Career development is critical to our long-term success. Otter Tail Power employees have opportunities to participate in various leadership development programs, gain access to an a la carte online leadership course catalog, receive mentorship from current leaders and more!

  • Mental health support from the experts at SupportLinc as well as competitive vacation and sick leave to ensure employees are at their best when they’re working.
