Position Information

This role involves serving approximately 46-56 students ranging from early elementary through middle school, working 35 hours per week. You'll be part of a collaborative virtual team focused on implementing evidence-based Orton Gillingham methodology while managing comprehensive special education services and maintaining the highest standards of student achievement.

Core Functions

• Deliver specialized Orton Gillingham instruction through interactive virtual classroom platforms
• Develop and implement individualized education programs tailored to each student's learning profile
• Conduct virtual diagnostic assessments to identify specific areas of need and strength
• Provide systematic instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics patterns, and reading strategies
• Create engaging virtual lessons that incorporate multisensory learning techniques
• Monitor student progress through regular assessments and data collection procedures
• Facilitate virtual parent meetings to discuss progress and coordinate home support
• Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to ensure comprehensive support

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Special Education or equivalent graduate preparation
• Active New Mexico special education teaching license
• Minimum 2 years of experience providing special education services in school settings
• Orton Gillingham certification or documented training in structured literacy instruction
• Competency in working with students who have specific learning disabilities or dyslexia
• Experience with virtual teaching platforms and educational technology tools
• Strong clinical teaching skills adaptable to virtual learning environments
• Excellent written communication abilities for IEP development and progress reporting

Technical Infrastructure

• Dedicated workspace ensuring privacy and minimizing interruptions during instruction
• Robust internet connection capable of supporting multiple simultaneous virtual sessions
• Professional computer setup with current operating system and educational software
• High-quality audio/video equipment for optimal virtual communication and instruction
• Familiarity with learning management systems and virtual special education platforms

Valued Additional Qualifications

• Advanced Orton Gillingham certification or fellowship training
• Experience with reading intervention programs and literacy assessment tools
• Background in positive behavior intervention supports and virtual classroom management
• Training in assistive technology applications for students with learning differences
