FitBooks Accounting is seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is an Enrolled Agent (EA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with strong technical tax knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping small business owners understand their numbers and plan strategically.

This position plays a key role in advising clients on tax planning, preparing business and personal tax returns, and collaborating with our bookkeeping and advisory teams to ensure each client’s financial picture is complete and compliant. The role also requires the ability to assist with bookkeeping questions and processes as needed, and to help clients create and implement business plans that align with their financial and growth objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly or quarterly client meetings to review financial statements, discuss tax implications, and implement strategic planning.
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings, compliance improvements , and proactive financial planning.
  • Collaborate with the accounting and bookkeeping team to ensure tax returns align with financial data and that records are properly maintained.
  • Assist with bookkeeping support as needed, including answering team and client questions related to accounting treatment, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Create, refine, and help implement business plans for clients that align financial performance with operational goals and growth strategies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Research complex tax issues and provide clear, actionable advice to clients and internal teams.
  • Prepare and file individual (1040) , business (1120, 1120S, 1065) , and related tax returns accurately and on time.
  • Assist in year-end tax projections and preparation of estimated tax payments.
  • Provide exceptional service and build long-term relationships with small business clients.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Taxation related degree a plus).
  • Active EA or CPA license required.
  • 3+ years of experience preparing and reviewing business and personal tax returns.
  • Strong working knowledge QuickBooks Online , and related accounting applications.
  • Ability to communicate complex tax and accounting concepts in a clear, client-friendly manner.
  • Experience meeting directly with small business owners for financial and tax strategy reviews.
  • Proven ability to create and implement business plans and offer financial insight that drives growth.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to step in where needed and collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
